Jogijorim is a popular Korean dish that features braised yellow croaker. It’s a flavorful and comforting dish that’s perfect for any occasion.
Ingredients:
- 5 yellow croaker fish, cleaned and gutted
- 1 medium-sized carrot, peeled and sliced into thin rounds
- 1 medium-sized onion, peeled and thinly sliced
- 1/4 cup green onion, chopped
- 1 tablespoon minced garlic
- 1 tablespoon ginger, minced
- 1 tablespoon gochugaru (Korean red pepper flakes)
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 cup water
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
Instructions:
- Prep the fish: Clean and gut the yellow croaker fish.
- Sauté the fish: Heat sesame oil in a large skillet or pot over medium heat. Add the garlic and ginger, and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant. Add the fish and cook for 2-3 minutes on each side until lightly browned.
- Add vegetables and seasonings: Add the carrot, onion, green onion, gochugaru, soy sauce, sugar, and water to the pot. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low and simmer for 15 minutes, or until the fish is cooked through and the sauce has thickened.
- Serve: Serve hot over steamed rice.
Tips:
- Other fish: You can use other white fish, such as cod or snapper, as a substitute for yellow croaker.
- Spice level: Adjust the amount of gochugaru to your desired spice level.
- Flavor enhancer: For a more complex flavor, add a tablespoon of mirin (Japanese rice wine) to the sauce.
- Garnish: Serve with fresh herbs like cilantro or parsley for added freshness.
