Dubujeon is a popular Korean dish featuring pan-fried tofu coated in a savory batter. It’s a simple yet delicious dish that can be enjoyed as a main course, side dish, or appetizer. The crispy exterior and soft interior of the tofu, combined with the flavorful batter, make it a truly satisfying dish.

Ingredients:

  • 1 block of tofu, pressed and sliced
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • Optional: chopped vegetables (green onions, carrots, etc.)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Tofu:
    • Press the tofu between paper towels to remove excess moisture.
    • Cut the tofu into slices of your desired thickness.
  2. Make the Batter:
    • In a bowl, whisk together the flour, eggs, salt, and pepper.
    • If desired, add chopped vegetables to the batter.
  3. Pan-fry the Tofu:
    • Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat.
    • Dip each tofu slice into the batter, ensuring it’s fully coated.
    • Carefully place the coated tofu in the hot oil and fry until golden brown on both sides.
  4. Serve:
    • Remove the fried tofu from the pan and drain on paper towels.
    • Serve hot with a dipping sauce of soy sauce, vinegar, and red pepper flakes.

Tips:

  • For a crispier texture, press the tofu firmly to remove excess moisture.
  • Adjust the thickness of the tofu slices to your preference.
  • You can experiment with different vegetables and seasonings to customize the flavor.
  • Serve with a variety of dipping sauces, such as soy sauce, gochujang, or a mix of both.
