Jeonbokjuk is a premium Korean porridge made with abalone. It’s a delicacy known for its rich, savory flavor and creamy texture. Abalone, a prized seafood, adds a luxurious touch to this dish, making it a popular choice for special occasions and convalescence.

Ingredients:

  • 2 abalones
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1 cup rice
  • 8 cups water
  • Salt
  • Sesame oil

Instructions:

  1. Rinse the rice: Wash the rice thoroughly and soak it in water for about an hour.
  2. Prepare the abalone: Scrub the abalone clean with a brush. Remove the meat from the shell and clean the innards. Slice the meat thinly.
  3. Slice the garlic: Slice the garlic thinly.
  4. Sauté: Heat some sesame oil in a pot. Sauté the garlic until fragrant. Add the drained rice and abalone, and sauté until the rice becomes translucent.
  5. Boil: Pour in the water and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.
  6. Season: Once the rice is cooked and the porridge has thickened, season with salt to taste.

Tips:

  • For a richer flavor, you can add a little bit of soy sauce to the porridge.
  • If you prefer a smoother texture, you can blend the porridge with a blender after it’s cooked.
  • For a healthier option, you can use brown rice instead of white rice.
